Great photography is not about great cameras…it’s about great moments. A good camera is important, but master photographers can make great photographs with cheap cameras.

Alfred Eisenstaedt took this famous V–J Day in Times Square photograph with a 35mm Leica rangefinder camera.  While it was the cutting edge in its day, it does not compare with today’s modern cameras.  The reason this is a great photo is that it was composed in such a way so the photo gives us a sense of depth, this is created by the lines of buildings and length of the road.  And, the “truth of the moment” that is expressed by the interaction of the people is the passion of the kiss.  Next, is the brilliant contrast and lighting, which is not by chance-it was planned. Most importantly he predicted that something was going to happen…
